Global Classroom Resource Centre. Educational resources, organized by theme, educational level (kindergarten, elementary and secondary), and province or territory are available to be downloaded. Professional development activities are also available and are organized by province or territory.
Youth Zone includes activities for youth to learn how to make a difference by becoming more active global citizens.
CODE's Project Love Teacher's Activity Guide in English and French: is a program that enables young people to learn about international development in terms they can understand and to act as global citizens by sending much needed educational materials to students and teachers in developing countries.
Right to Play Canadian School Program in English and French: This free resource, developed for grades 4-6, integrates curriculum-based social studies lesson plays with creative play. All activities are classroom-friendly and are woven together with an engaging (and optional) mystery story, leading students on an exploration of children around the world, the countries they live in and a study of our rights and responsibilities in the world community. .
Ryan's Well Foundation curriculum materials in English and French: On-line resources for teachers focusing on the issue of getting clean water to children and communities in the developing world. Their educational package includes facts, figures, activities, and related links to integrate Ryan's message with elementary school curriculum guidelines.
UNICEF Canada 's Global Schoolhouse materials developed for primary/junior teachers in English and French:
Teaching for Children Rights: Rights, Wants & Needs Card and Activity Kit - This primary/junior level resource includes 20 cards and related educational activities to teach and learn about children's rights.
2004 Teacher's Guide: Going to school - The road to hope - Developed for primary/junior level teachers using a true story about a Moroccan girl. Activities were developed for K-3 and 4-6 students.
2003 Teacher's Guide: When I grow up, I want to be alive! - Developed for primary/junior level teachers using a true story about an Ethiopian girl. Activities were developed for K-6 students.
United Nations Cyber school bus in English and French - A global teaching and learning project which includes resources, curriculum, as well as games and quizzes for children and youth. There is also a link to UN resources for grades K-12.
World Vision Teacher Resources in English and French offers a wide selection of educational resources that can be used in elementary and high school classrooms. Some activities can be downloaded free from the World Vision website while others can be bought.
Video Resources on the Internet
Back to school is a Public Broadcasting System (PBS) video highlighting what the first year of schooling was like for seven children in seven countries. These countries are Afghanistan , Benin , Brazil , India , Japan , Kenya , and Romania . The video can be viewed over the internet or a DVD can be purchased. Unfortunately this video is only available in English. Please make sure you view the video to ensure it is suitable for your students.
PBS has other documentaries that are part of its Wide Angle Global Classroom series with corresponding lesson plans and activities for students in grade 6 and above.
Internet games for children
UNICEF Canada has the kids' room designed to enable students to learn about children around the world, to play games, read stories and have fun. There are interactive cartoons students can use to learn about the lives of other children. Several different games and cartoons are available with the following titles: A brief history of UNICEF, Helping children around the world, Children's rights, UNICEF Quiz game, UNICEF World heroes game and others.
