More than 200 schools across Canada participated in the record attempt for the Guinness World's Biggest Lesson! Click here to see a list of schools.

During this year's Global Action Week, hundreds of students and educators from across the country took action in their schools to display their compassion, awareness, and support for equitable global education. Below are just a few highlight events from several schools who took part in this year's campaign:
St. Mary's Secondary School, Coburg, Ontario
Over 345 students and educators from St. Mary's Secondary School in Coburg, Ontario took part in this year's Global Action Week. To show their support, students took action in their classrooms by creating banners and classroom displays throughout their school to raise a further awareness of global education. Educators from St. Mary's also did their part during this year's Global Action Week by teaching their students about global development, education, and the impotance of being active global citizens in their community.
Hawthorne Village Public School , Milton, Ontario
Students from Hawthorne Village Public School showed their support during this year's Global Action Week by writing letters to their local MP about how they felt about the current state of global education. These entries contained powerful messages informing their local MP about the inequities that exist in global education, and to also help improve these current conditions because as Maggie, a 7 year old students from Hawthorne Village Public School wrote, "It is importance for all children to go to school so they will have a good education."
Mapleton Public School, St. Andrews, Manitoba and Inuksuit School, Qikiqtarjuaq, Nunavut
The success of this year's Global Action Week was due to a collaborative effort made by both students and educators in schools across Canada. At Mapleton Public School and Inuksuit School both educators and students showed their commitment and determination during this year's campaign by working together in learning about global education in their classrooms and actively partaking in this year's World's Biggest Lesson in April 23, 2008.

In recognition of the millions of people who have missed out on a quality education, the 2008 theme for Global Action Week is:

"Quality Education for All: End Exclusion Now!"

There are many reasons why children miss this opportunity to gain an education. It might be because of disability, poverty, ethnicity, gender, conflict, geographical location or exploitation as child labourers. These issues are explored throughout this website and in the material that you can obtain through the Canadian Global Campaign for Education.

There are several ways in which you can participate in the Global Action Week (GAW):

•· By downloading this year's curriculum you can implement a variety of lessons in your classroom during the GAW, or when it is most convenient for you and your students.

•· You can download the World's Biggest Lesson and participate in a Guinness World Record attempt on April 23rd. You can use this Power Point to present your lesson.

•· If you live in the Toronto area you can attend the GAW highlight event at the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education on April 23rd from 10:00am to 12:00pm.

Children of the world, now is the time for your generation to stand side by side together. Together, you can be the generation that sees every child get the education that is their right. World leaders have promised this and you must make sure they keep to it by joining together to speak with one voice. You are the future of this world and can change it for the better. You can make your leaders make their promises happen.
